Ideas in September

Among harbours and feasts

In the time of year when days are becoming shorter and sun begs out richest colours of nature, Istria peninsula has special charm. Like ethnical diversity of inhabitants of the largest Adriatic peninsula, Istria has many faces. The fact is that all of this faces are in favour of visitors of Istria, either for MICE or leisure.

Nowadays spreading from Italy, Slovenia and Croatia the area is rich with culture and has a sufficient infrastructure for small and large scale meetings and incentives. Here you will find many hidden gems which are fusion of tradition and contemporary approach. And I have surprise for you. I know one event you will never forget. The gulf of Trieste which closes the peninsula on north west will this October host the biggest sailing regatta Barcolana with more than 2000 sailors and over 300 000 spectators following event on the land.

This traditional regatta is a feast of sailors followed by typical local Mediterranean cuisine combining fishes and istrian wine Malvasia. The latter evolved and gained quality and popularity in last 20 years. In Istria wine is strong part of tradition and you will even find it in a special Istrian soup which consists mainly of Refošk red wine and baked bread.

Sometimes simple recipes make wonders. But it is not a wonder that cult president Tito chose istrian island Brioni for his residence. What will you choose for your next event?

Slovenian Istra - terra magica

Slovenian Istria is a scenic part of Slovenia with gently rolling hills, which extends into the neighbouring Croatia. This Istrian peninsula was known to Romans as terra magica. It's truly magical how much beauty and sights are hidden on such small geographic area. Known Istrian historian once said it would be hard to find a land with so generous nature, of mild climate and with such rich and varied history.

Thanks to its mild Mediterranean climate, Slovenian Istria can be explored all year-round. The old town centres of Koper, Izola and Piran, with their historical feel, the natural phenomena of the Istrian coast, landscape parks and the scenic Šavrini Hills, make Slovenian Istria a unique destination.

One of the treasures of the region are olives. The olive making tradition dates back in the past, but it is in large expansion in the last three decades. Due to climate particularities olive oil of Slovenian Istria is recognizable for its distinctive aroma and appreciated because of the favourable fatty acid composition.

Apart from olive oil, the typical top quality souvenirs from Istria also include products made from sea salt and salt flower.

Istria definitely is a magical, mystical, mysterious and seductive region with many undiscovered corners that are just waiting to be found.

Olive harvest

Have you ever wondered how olives are turned into an extra virgin olive oil? Or maybe you know how this is done and you just want to experience it first hand and make sure the stories are true?

Join us on an olive harvest program, where you will experience the beauty of Slovenian Istria. You will find yourself in a world of olives and wine, experiencing a true olive grower's day. You will harvest the olives from an olive tree and because who works has to eat as well, you will be provided with the traditional farmer's meal that you will enjoy among the olive trees. The beautiful environment provides countless possibilities for joy and fun.

One thing is for sure: you will not be bored! And after the harvest you will cold press the olives to get a pure extra virgin olive oil - of much better quality then the one you use at home! As the night falls you will taste culinary specialities of Slovenian Istria, accompanied by delicious local wines.
